KING COUNTY, WA - The King County Board of Health will hold its next meeting on Friday, February 17, 2006, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Election of 2006 King County Board of Health Officers
At the January 2006 meeting, the Board designated two of its four Vice Chairs (one each to represent the Seattle City Council, and the Health Professionals). The Board will designate Vice Chairs to represent the Metropolitan King County Council and the Suburban Cities. (Action Item)
At the January 2006 meeting, Boardmembers Hutchinson and Patterson were nominated for the position of Board Chair. The Board will conduct a vote to elect its new Chair. (Action Item)

Briefing: Health of King County
Dr. James Krieger, Chief, Epidemiology, Planning and Evaluation Unit, Public Health Seattle & King County, will present the findings of our omnibus report, Health of King County. This report is a comprehensive analysis of over 50 behavioral risk, health outcome and population indicators for King County residents. The report looks at trends over the last 10 years, current rates and numbers of events, differences by race/ethnicity, income/poverty, Health Planning Area and Region and other demographics. Dr. Krieger's presentation will include major trends, successes, and continuing challenges, especially continuing health disparities. The Board of Health will have an opportunity to discuss the contents of this report.

Briefing: King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention and Public Health Seattle and King County Jail Health Services
At the December 2005 meeting, a panel briefed the Board on the topic of jail deaths in King County. Since the December 2005 Board meeting, some Board members have made site visits to the County’s detention facilities and have been provided with an overview of the services provided therein. As a follow up to the December presentation and site visits by Board members, a panel (including Reed Holtgeerts, Director, Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention; Bette Pine, MPH, Section Manager, Jail Health Services; Ben Sanders, MD, Medical Director, Jail Heath Services; and David Kersey, MD, Psychiatric Services Medical Director, Jail Health Services) will provide an update regarding specific issues and questions raised by Board members and respond to the more direct inquiries into services delivered by the staff of Jail Health Services and the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention.
