WORK LOCATION:   The DAJD Juvenile Division Health Clinic, located at 1211 E. Alder, Seattle, WA 98122. 

 

WORK SCHEDULE:   This is a 40-hour work week, overtime eligible position.  The normal work week is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  For purposes of providing nursing supervision to all shifts, becoming familiar with duties on all shifts, and/or rare staffing emergencies/schedule adjustments, weekend and/or shift work may be required (including evenings, weekends, holiday and overtime).  

 

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:   This classification is responsible for providing overall supervision of the work and professional practice of RN’s and para-professionals such as Nursing Assistants, for the purpose of developing and implementing health services  to juveniles detained at the DAJD Juvenile Division.   The essential functions of this position are detailed on the second page of this announcement. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   Washington State license as a Registered Nurse in good standing.  Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a school of nursing accredited by the National League of Nursing, or equivalent.  Recent experience as an RN in an ambulatory care setting; previous experience in a supervisory capacity in nursing, social services, government or other relevant field.  The most competitive candidates will possess: 

• Demonstrated knowledge of nursing practices, healthcare delivery systems, and the law regarding the practice of nursing and other health care disciplines;
• Knowledge of quality improvement processes and methods;
• Knowledge of program development and evaluation techniques;
• Demonstrated skills in multi-project management and handling work priorities;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Excellent computer skills in a variety of applications, including:  Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point;
• Skill in establishing and maintaining work relationships with diverse populations and staff;
• Knowledge of human resources/personnel practices and applications;
• Familiarity with occupational health and handling of work hazards and safety practices.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Valid Washington State driver’s license, or the alternative ability to travel around the County is required. Selected candidates must pass a thorough background investigation process which includes a polygraph, criminal history check, reference checks, psychological testing and evaluation; selected candidates must also pass a pre-employment physical.

Essential Functions: 

 

• Will provide direct supervision for a clinical practice of RN’s (both Staff RN’s and Infection Control/Employee Health RN) and para-professionals such as Nursing Assistants to include: making hiring recommendations, conducting performance evaluations, training, team building, counseling, and responding/managing disciplinary issues (requiring general knowledge of Human Resources/personnel practices and applications).

 

• Develop and maintain monthly schedules for RN’s and NA’s including working with Nurse Staffing Agencies to fill vacancies in the schedule when needed. Develop and implement recruitment plan.

• Participate in planning, implementing and monitoring quality improvement projects for enhancing the delivery of health care services at Juvenile Detention.  Recommend changes based on QA outcomes to Health Services Administrator.

 

• Research, develop, and implement best practices in nursing practice and health delivery to juveniles and develop and implement nursing guidelines and policies consistent with laws governing nursing practice.

 

• Developing formulary, emergency medication kit, and other policies/protocols to ensure availability of necessary pharmaceuticals.

• Oversee medication management, including over the counter medication administration protocols for non-nursing staff. 

• Assist in the coordination and facilitation of service delivery of other systems operations within the Health Clinic: mental health, STD, and other providers.

• Make budget and spending recommendations to the Health Services Administrator/manager.

• Responsible for overall management of Health Services/an operation during the absence of the manager.
