WORK LOCATION: King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle, WA.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is not overtime eligible. The workweek is normally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the Public Transportation Fund financial results and interpreting those results for management.
Job duties include:
- Perform oversight of subsidiary ledgers and activities including cash management, preparation of journal entries, accrual accounting, support for budget development, and reporting.
- Act as primary liaison with the Finance Division and other county agencies providing information about Transit Division operations and financial transactions and assist as needed to facilitate transactions between county agencies.
- Represent the Transit Division and Public Transportation Fund in development of new county financial systems and processes.
- Manage the financial transactions generated by/and on behalf of the Transit Division ensuring the transactions meet Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Government Accounting Standard Board (GASB) requirements.
- Review and recommend changes to Transit Division policies and procedures in order to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Serve as the lead/expert to other positions in Transit providing instruction and training in all aspects of financial accounting. Represents the Transit Division with external parties such as auditors.
- Prepare special statistical and financial reporting – including reporting to the Federal Transit Administration’s National Transit Database.
QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Other qualifications include:
- Four years of increasingly responsible accounting experience.
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) policies.
- Knowledge of automated financial accounting systems, personal computers, and reporting.
- Skill in preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial statements and notes.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks; skill in time management.
- Ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
- Ability to apply problem solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to convey clear and timely information.
- Demonstrated ability to get along with people and to work as a team member.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal grant reporting processes and requirements.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Oracle Financial Applications and Peoplesoft Payroll applications desired.
- CPA desired, but not required.
- Experience with public transportation industry.
- Experience with Enterprise Fund Accounting.
