Heavy Rain Causing River Flooding in King County

The King County Flood Warning Center reports lowland areas along the Tolt and Snoqualmie rivers in east King County are experiencing flooding due to heavy rain and mountain runoff.

The Flood Warning Center currently has Phase Two flood alerts posted for both the Tolt and Snoqualmie rivers. A Phase Two alert means minor flooding and some road closures can be expected in low-lying areas of the Snoqualmie Valley. While flooding along the Snoqualmie River is not currently expected to be significant, the National Weather Service is forecasting moderate flooding along the Tolt River this afternoon, which would place the river at a Phase Three alert. Heavy rain is expected to move out of the area later today with freezing levels predicted to lower in the mountains by tomorrow morning. The Flood Warning Center will continue to monitor area rivers until conditions improve.

Motorists are advised that flooding may force some roads to be closed in lowland areas of the Snoqualmie Valley through tomorrow. Road crews are now monitoring these flood prone areas for water over roadways and will post closures as necessary. Motorists are advised never to drive through standing water or around barricades - this is how most lives are lost during floods.
