King County Considers Speed Limit Reduction on
South 216th Street / Southeast 216th Street

The King County Road Services Division will hold a public hearing at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 26, 1999 in downtown Seattle to gather comments on a proposal to reduce the speed limit on a stretch of South 216th Street and Southeast 216th Street east of Kent.

The division is considering lowering the speed limit from 35 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour on South 216th Street and Southeast 216th Street between 98th Avenue South and State Route 515. The proposed speed limit reduction responds to community concern over speeds in the neighborhood and a traffic analysis, which found the current speed limit to be inconsistent with the area's neighborhood character. The proposed speed limit reduction is designed to increase safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.

The hearing will be held in Room 400 of the Yesler Building, which is located at 400 Yesler Way, Seattle. Written comments will also be accepted through April 22, 1999 and should be forwarded to Ron Paananen, County Road Engineer, 400 Yesler Way, MS 4Y, Seattle, WA, 98104-2637, ATTN: IRENE E. ARGUE. Comments can also be e-mailed to traffic.roads@metrokc.gov or faxed to (206) 296-0176. For more information, call the Traffic Engineering Section at (206) 296-6596.
