KING COUNTY TO CLOSE PORTIONS OF SUNSET ROAD AND
SOPER ROAD FOR SOIL TESTING
The King County Road Services will close the 13600 block of Sunset Road Southwest and the 8700 block of Soper Road for two day periods later this month so crews can perform soil testing to determine why two small road failures occurred last month during heavy rain.
The county plans to conduct drilling along Sunset Road Southwest between the hours of 9AM- 4PM, Tuesday, April 20th and Wednesday, April 21st. During the daytime closures, residents should make alternate parking or travel arrangements. The county is suggesting residents either plan their schedules around the closures or consider parking their vehicle on Robinwood Road.
Soil testing on Soper Road will be underway from 9AM - 4PM, Thursday, April 22 and Friday, April 23rd. Local residents will again need to make alternate travel or parking arrangements if they are planning to travel during the closure periods.
Both roads showed signs of sinking and required temporary repairs last month following a prolonged period of heavy rain. The soil tests will help determine the extent of saturated soil and whether additional slide activity can be expected. Following completion of drilling, the county will determine whether long term road repairs are needed.
While access to homes will be impacted while drilling is underway, the roads will be opened for emergency vehicles, if necessary. The county will work as quickly as possible to complete the drilling in an effort to minimize travel disruptions.
