News Release

Release date: September 6, 2000

It just got easier to ride the bus in the Puget Sound region

Coordinating a bus trip in the Puget Sound region from Tacoma to Everett is about to change.

As part of the goal to establish a seamless public transportation system, Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro, Pierce Transit and Sound Transit will accept each other's transfers beginning Sept. 16.

A person traveling from Tacoma on Pierce Transit to Seattle would be able to use their transfer on King County Metro to continue travel in the Seattle area. The same would be true for people in Snohomish County heading for Seattle and vice-versa.

The transfer will allow a person to travel within another bus system's local fare zone or the one-zone fare at no additional cost. After changing buses the rider would have to pay an additional charge if they travel out of the zone where the transfer occurred.

Today's announcement represents another critical milestone in regional cooperation between local transit agencies. Last September, Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro, Pierce Transit and Sound Transit launched the PugetPass, a monthly bus pass that is good on all five systems and provides unlimited trips. It was an instant success. Since then, the program has been expanded to include the ferry system.

The PugetPass is as easy to buy as it is to use. Riders can purchase a PugetPass by mail or from the pass outlets of any of the five transit systems. For more information, please call (888) 889-6368 or visit the PugetPass Web site at www.pugetpass.org.
