Improved regional mobility highlights Metro service revisions that start Saturday, Sept. 16

Sound Transit is introducing three Express bus routes and new Sounder commuter train service, and King County Metro Transit is revising service to connect to the new train as well as adding four new bus routes of its own -- as part of Metro' s overall service revision that takes effect this Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000.

Metro revises its service three times each year to improve service and respond to customer needs, based on advice and comment from residents, bus riders, community organizations and local jurisdictions. The goal is to reduce duplication of service and help the region move toward a seamless, integrated transit system.

To help smooth transition to the new service, Metro and Sound Transit will have teams on the street at these times and locations:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 13, and Monday, Sept. 18, from 5:30-9 a.m. at the Redmond park-and-ride lot.
  • Saturday, Sept. 16, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and on Sunday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Bellevue Transit Center.
  • Monday, Sept. 18, from 5:30-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m., at the Bothell park-and-ride lot and nearby stops, assisting customers with transfer connections between Sound Transit and Metro.
  • Monday, Sept. 18, at the Renton Transit Center and park-and-ride lot.

In addition, Sound Transit will have 100 volunteers assisting customers board the new Sounder commuter trains at the King Street and Auburn Sounder stations.

New orange timetables for detailed routing and scheduling information are now available on buses and at outlets. Timetables and maps will be available on Metro Online by the close of business Sept.15.

Sounder commuter train service will begin on Monday, Sept. 18. Metro routes 151 and 152 will have select trips connecting with Sounder arrival and departure times at the Auburn Station, located west of "A" St. S.W. and First St. S.W. On timetables, the specific times for those connections is indicated by the new train symbol below:

The new Sound Transit Express bus routes are:

  • Route 540 -- Redmond-University District Express
  • Route 545/546 -- Redmond-Seattle Express
  • Route 560 -- Bellevue-Sea-Tac Airport Express.

These new ST routes and a new Metro Route 277 will replace portions of Metro routes 263, 267, 275 and 276 starting Monday:

  • New Metro Route 277 operates weekdays from 6-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m. between the University District, Kingsgate and the Houghton park-and-ride lots.

Replacing portions of Metro Route 340 are new Sound Transit Express Route 560 and ST routes 530, 531 and 532, and new Metro routes 140, 341 and 342:

  • New Metro Route 140 provides daily east-west service linking the Burien Transit Center with the Renton Park-and-Ride.
  • New Metro Route 341 provides daily east-west service between Bothell and the Aurora Village Transit Center.
  • New Metro Route 342 operates weekdays from 5:50-7:20 a.m. and 3:40-5:10 p.m. between Shoreline, the Bothell park-and-ride and Bellevue and Renton transit centers.

Other changes will be made on Eastside routes 230, 254 and 291. Seattle routes 10, 11, 12, 20, 43 and 44 will have night schedule adjustments. Routes 10, 11, 12 and 20 will have Sunday schedule adjustments. Other changes will be made to routes 82 and 84, to Route 11 to Madison Valley and to Route 185 serving the Auburn Senior Complex

Also starting Sept. 16, transfers from Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro Transit, Pierce Transit and Sound Transit will be universally accepted on those services for base fare. This transfer complements PugetPass, which was introduced last year and is good on transit systems all over the central Puget Sound region.

To help inform its customers of the September service change, Metro has prepared 500 posted bus stop rider alerts, 2,500 coach posters and 40,000 special Rider Alert brochures.
