The King County Road Services Division is advising residents and motorists that a series of traffic safety improvements will be made at the intersection of Southeast 304th Street and 124th Avenue Southeast beginning the week of December 11th (weather permitting). The improvements are expected to receive support from Lea Hill residents who have voiced concern about traffic problems at the intersection.
As part of the package of safety improvements, the division will initially install an all-way stop at the intersection. Traffic engineers will also convert flashing yellow caution lights to four-way red flashers. Advance warning signs will be installed to alert motorists that the intersection has been converted to an all-way stop. Next year, a new overhanging traffic signal will be permanently installed at the busy intersection.
The Road Services Division recently confirmed the need for these improvements following the completion of a traffic study that was prompted by feedback from the community. Earlier studies showed traffic volumes were not significant enough to warrant signal upgrades. In addition to the traffic signal improvements, the division will also consider adding left turn lanes at the intersection in future years.
