Residents invited to discuss White Center safety improvementsThe King County Road Services Division will hold an open house from 6:30PM - 8:30PM, Wednesday, June 14th at the Eagle's Hall in White Center to discuss proposed improvements aimed at reducing accidents at two busy intersections in the area. According to county traffic figures, the intersections of 16th Avenue Southwest and Southwest 102nd Street and Southwest 107th Street and 15th Avenue Southwest are experiencing higher than normal accident rates. In an effort to make the intersections safer, the county is proposing to add left turn lanes and revised signals on 16th Avenue Southwest and left turn lanes on Southwest 107th Street. The majority of accidents at these locations have involved vehicles making left turns. The county has received federal funding to pay 90 percent of the estimated $120,000 cost of the projects. Both projects are tentatively scheduled for construction this fall. During the open house, residents will have an opportunity to view displays of the projects and share their comments. They'll also have an opportunity to help shape the alignment of left turn lanes on 16th Avenue Southwest. The selection of a final alignment will determine how many parking spaces will need to be eliminated to accommodate the left turn lanes. Eagles Hall is located at 10452 15th Avenue Southwest. For more information about the open house, contact Mary Bass at (206) 263-5259 or by e-mail at mary.bass@metrokc.gov ### |
