North SPAR design on display at upcoming open house

The King County Department of Transportation will hold an open house Thursday, Oct. 11, to present an update on the design and construction of the northern link of the Sammamish Plateau Access Road (SPAR).

The open house will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Eastridge Christian Assembly, 5025 Issaquah-Pine Lake Road S.E., Issaquah. The meeting will offer the public the opportunity to learn about the project, view project displays, provide written comments and learn about the anticipated construction schedule.

The North SPAR will be a new multilane principal arterial connecting the intersection of Issaquah-Fall City Road/Issaquah-Pine Lake Road to a new road network providing direct access to Interstate 90. The North SPAR is designed to connect to the South SPAR within the Issaquah Highlands development and then connect to the expanded Sunset Interchange on I-90 that is now under construction.

In recent years, rapid growth on the Sammamish Plateau has significantly increased the traffic congestion on Issaquah-Fall City Road, Issaquah-Pine Lake Road and East Lake Sammamish Parkway. The new road network is expected to significantly relieve that congestion.

For current plans and other project-related information, please log onto the project's Web site at http://www.metrokc.gov/kcdot/roads/proj/spar/rnspar1.htm.

The department's Road Services Division is now in the final design phase and right-of-way negotiations process. Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2002 at a cost of about $12.11 million.

For more information about the meeting, please contact Jana Wagner at (206) 205-5229.
