News ReleaseRelease date: Oct. 2, 2001 County hosts open house on Novelty Hill Road projectThe King County Department of Transportation will hold an open house Thursday, Oct. 18, to present an update on the Novelty Hill Road Project. The open house will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Evergreen Junior High School, 6900 208th Ave. N.E., Redmond. The meeting will offer the public an opportunity to learn about the project, discuss the expanded project study area, review new traffic projections and learn about new alignment alternatives. The goal of the project is to improve Northeast Novelty Hill Road east of Avondale Road Northeast so it can handle both current traffic demands and future anticipated traffic volumes. King County Road Services is considering several alternatives including a three-lane design, a five-lane plan and a no-build option. Other proposed improvements include storm detention facilities; safety features for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians; retaining walls; and landscaping. Transit alternatives are also being explored. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2006.
