Flood Alert logoSnoqualmie River Reaches Phase III flooding

The King County Flood Warning Center has issued a Phase III flood alert for the Snoqualmie and Tolt rivers. Flood patrols are headed out to check levees and dikes in the Snoqualmie Valley. King County Roads Division crews are out in the Snoqualmie Valley as well as throughout the county checking for water over roadways and flood-related damages.

Phase III flooding means that the river will overflow its banks in low lying areas where roads will be closed and some farmland will flood. Motorists are warned to heed road closures and to not drive through standing water. The number one cause of death during floods is motorists driving through flood waters. While roads may look passable, swift flows and hidden road damage can create extremely hazardous conditions.

The Snoqualmie and Tolt rivers are expected to continue to rise. The National Weather Service predicts the Snoqualmie to crest overnight and the Tolt to crest late this afternoon.

Residents in affected areas can get updated information on flooding on the King County Web site at www.metrokc.gov or the area's regional Web site at www.govlink.org. A recorded flood information hotline is updated each hour for citizens wanting information in flood areas. The number is 296-8200 or 1-800-945-9263. Citizens who need help interpreting flood information should call 296-4535 or 1-800-768-7932. Road problems can be reported by calling 296-8100 or 1-800-KC-ROADS.
