County hosts meeting to discuss its portion of South 277th project

(Note: For latest information on this project, please check here.)

South King County residents and business people are invited to learn more about the final phase of improvements on South 277th Street at an upcoming meeting hosted by the King County Roads Division.

The open house will be held:

Thursday, June 20th
6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Washington State Department of Transportation Maintenance Operation Building
26620 68th Avenue S., Kent
(on South 266th Street at West Valley Highway)

Work on South 277th Street is being done in three phases by King County and the cities of Auburn and Kent. King County’s portion is the final stage, and includes the stretch of roadway from West Valley Highway to 72nd Avenue South. The county project includes roadway widening and raising it to prevent serious flooding. Plans also call for intersection improvements, widening and seismic retrofit of the State Route 167 bridge, new sidewalks, bike lanes, and signal synchronization.

The county’s project has an estimated $15 million budget, and construction is to begin in January 2003 and last until October 2004.

Those interested in the project are invited to drop in during the 90-minute open house to pick up information and talk to project staff. You may also call Pat Cleary at (206) 684-1142 (voice), (206) 684-1682 (TTY), or (206) 263-3489 (fax); or email her at pat.cleary@metrokc.gov.
