County set to begin work on 244th Avenue SE project near Enumclaw

The King County Road Services division will begin work the week of June 24 on several improvements to 244th Avenue Southeast near Enumclaw.

The $3-million project includes: widening the roadway from two to three lanes; installing sidewalks on the east side of the road; adding an 8-foot paved shoulder on the west side; and improving roadside drainage.

The project area is located between Warner Avenue (Southeast 456th Street) and Sunrise Elementary School (Southeast 462nd Street). Work is expected to begin the week of June 24th, once school is recessed for the summer.

The half-mile project area will be closed to through traffic from July 8 through August 24. During that time, motorists are advised to detour via Highway 410, Semanski Street, and Warner Avenue. Uniformed officers will be directing traffic at key intersections on an as-needed basis.

This project is a partnership between King County and the city of Enumclaw. Project goals include increased safety for pedestrians walking along 244th and for motorists making left turns from the road. The project is also designed to ease congestion near both McDougall Street and the elementary school. Currently, the city is completing upgrades to underground utilities on the south end of 244th.
