The King County Road Services Division is taking advantage of the summer
construction season to make repairs and improvements on several key roads in
south King County.
But that also means road closures and detours for motorists. Here are some
of the key projects with closures starting in the next two weeks:
Fairwood Boulevard
Southeast Fairwood Boulevard will be closed to through traffic from July
8 to August 27 at 154th Court Southeast to replace the deteriorating
culvert that conveys Madsen Creek under the roadway. In order to construct this
replacement, the entire width of the road (including sidewalks) will be
excavated.
Motorists are directed to detour via 151st Avenue Southeast, Southeast 172nd
Place, Southeast 176th Street, and 155th Avenue Southeast during the road
closure.
244th Avenue Southeast
Work has been underway for two weeks on 244th Avenue Southeast near
Enumclaw, but the roadway will need to be closed to through traffic from
July 8 until August 24 for more intensive construction work. The project
includes: widening the roadway from two to three lanes; installing sidewalks on
the east side of the road; adding an 8-foot paved shoulder on the west side;
and improving roadside drainage.
The project area is located between Warner Avenue (Southeast 456th Street)
and Sunrise Elementary School (Southeast 462nd Street). During the closure,
motorists are advised to detour via Highway 410, Semanski Street, and Warner
Avenue. Uniformed officers will be directing traffic at key intersections on an
as-needed basis.
276th Avenue Southeast
A section of 276th Avenue Southeast south of Hobart will be closed at
Southeast 218th Street from 7 a.m. Monday, July 8 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 12.
Crews will replace a culvert that conveys a small stream under the roadway.
During the closure, motorists should use Southeast 216th Street, 260th
Avenue Southeast, and Southeast 224th Street as a detour route.
May Valley Road
A week later, the county will close Southeast May Valley Road from 6 a.m.
Monday, July 15 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 17.
The roadway will be closed between 223rd Avenue Southeast and 229th Drive
Southeast. The base of the roadway has sunk in two sections, and must be
repaired before the road is repaved later this year.
During the closure, motorists can use the Renton-Issaquah Road (SR 900),
Southeast Newport Way, and Issaquah-Hobart Road as a detour route to reach May
Valley neighborhoods.
