King County has received federal funding to replace the aging Preston Bridge
that spans the Raging River at Southeast 86th Street.
King County Roads Services will host an open house on Wednesday, Sept. 18
to share information about the replacement project. The open house will be held
from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Preston Community Center on the
Preston-Fall City Road.
County engineers undertook an extensive two-year study of the bridge and
determined that 67 years of wear and tear have significantly weakened the
bridge to the point where it needs to be replaced.
The replacement project is tentatively scheduled to take place in 2003 from
March through November. County staff is working closely with the Preston
community to deal with community concerns about the bridge closure and
replacement.
Information at the open house will include computer-generated drawings of
the new bridge, details on new safety features, and how the impacts of
construction will be minimized for the community.
