Metro will adjust service during ferry dock closures

Due to major construction at the Fauntleroy and Southworth ferry terminals, the Washington State Ferries (WSF) will be closing both facilities effective Saturday, September 21, through Sunday, October 13.

This will also affect bus service provided by King County Metro Transit, since ferry service between Southworth and Vashon Island, and between Vashon Island and Fauntleroy, will be discontinued during the construction period. Alternative direct ferry service for Vashon residents will be provided between the Vashon Island terminal and Colman Dock in downtown Seattle.

To provide the most efficient bus-ferry connections for Vashon Island riders during construction, Metro will revise Routes 116, 118 and 119. Routes 118 and 119 shuttle trips will be adjusted to meet the revised ferry route/schedule at the Vashon terminal. Routing on the island, however, will remain unchanged. The Route 118 and 119 direct-commuter trips that currently board the ferries will be discontinued.

In Seattle, Route 116 will not operate between downtown Seattle and the Fauntleroy terminal during the construction period. Instead, the route will be revised to operate within downtown Seattle only, to provide additional shuttle service to uptown locations from Colman Dock.

Riders whose destinations are located in south downtown, Pioneer Square and SODO, via 1st Avenue South, can use Routes 21 (local only), 22, 56 (local only), 57, and 132 (local only).

Riders who use Route 116 for destinations in West Seattle can use Route 54 Express or Sound Transit Route 570 between downtown Seattle and West Seattle.

For the most current schedule information, visit Metro Online. Also, look for red "Rider Alert" brochures in buses and posted online. For further assistance, please call Metro Rider Information at (206) 553-3000.
