Ideas for improving transit service in the Shoreline, Lake Forest Park and
the Northgate areas are now available for review via the Internet and at two
upcoming meetings. Information has also been mailed to more than 60,000 homes
and businesses in North King County.
King County Metro Transit is working with a group of transit riders and
community members to develop ideas for improving bus service in the northend.
Some of the goals are: improve east-west service; increase the frequency of
local service; and maximize the efficiency of commute-time trips.
Preliminary ideas will be discussed at meetings on:
Monday, Dec. 9th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Broadview Elementary School
13052 Greenwood Blvd., Seattle
Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon
Shoreline Conference Center
18560 1st Ave. NE, Shoreline.
Some of the ideas under consideration include:
- Potentially provide more Route 301 trips between Seattle and Shoreline by
eliminating the one-way loop on Third and Eighth Avenues Northwest;
- Consider improving the frequency of "reverse commute" trips for routes
317 and 377 north of Northgate (northbound in the morning peak period and
southbound in the afternoon). To fund this, and other improvements in local
service, consider deleting the extensions of routes 317 and 377 to Edmonds
and Lynnwood, respectively. Also consider deleting the portions of routes 317
and 377 between Northgate and downtown Seattle via Interstate 5;
- Consider providing more frequent Saturday service on Route 315 between
Northgate and Richmond Beach;
- Discuss re-allocating the peak commute service from Route 308 between
Seattle and Lake Forest Park to provide all-day local service in north Lake
Forest Park;
- Look into offering more direct east-west connections north of Northgate
by revising routes 314, 315 and 377; and
- Revise routes 341, 370 and 943 to attract more passengers.
These ideas will be refined and reviewed again by the public, before being
submitted to the Metropolitan King County Council for approval. If approved,
the transit service changes would be implemented in September 2003.
Metro is still soliciting ideas from the public. Questionnaires have been
mailed, are posted online at
