County to repave eight miles of Vashon roads

The King County Road Services Division will begin resurfacing approximately eight miles of roadway in various locations on Vashon Island beginning Wednesday, Aug. 20. The work is expected to last two to three weeks.

Crews will be removing the old road surface with an asphalt grinder and then repaving in the following locations:

  • Southwest Gorsuch Road from Vashon Highway to 91st Avenue Southwest;
  • 131st Avenue Southwest from Vashon Highway to Southwest Bachelor Road;
  • Southwest Bank Road/Thorsen Road Southwest from Westside Highway to Vashon Highway;
  • Southwest 171st Street from Vashon Highway to Southwest Gorsuch Road
  • Beall Road Southwest from Cemetery Road to Southwest Bank Road;
  • Southwest Cove Road from Westside Highway to Vashon Highway;
  • Southwest 188th Street from Vashon Highway west to end of road.

These repaving projects on Vashon are part of King County's $4.6 million overlay program for 2003. The overlay projects are designed to improve driving surfaces, reduce maintenance costs and extend the life of county roads.
