King County International Airport/Boeing Field
to hold emergency disaster drill Saturday

King County International Airport (KCIA) at Boeing Field will be the site of a mock disaster drill on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandates that such a drill be held every three years to test the response of the Airport Rescue Firefighters and local mutual-aid agencies. It is required under federal law to enable the airport to maintain its operating certificate.

Saturday’s drill will simulate an aircraft emergency involving serious injury to the airplane and passengers, and involve volunteer victims. The drill area will be closed to the public during the exercise, which is expected to last from 9 a.m. to noon.

Other agencies participating in the mock exercise include the Seattle, Tukwila, and Boeing Company fire departments, the King County Sheriff’s Office and local police departments, the FAA, and the King County Office of Emergency Management.
