Interchange work will impact bus service
in SODO area between Nov. 16-25

Demolition work on the freeway interchange near Safeco Field will cause disruptions to Metro Transit service between Nov. 16 to Nov. 25.

The Washington State Department of Transportation will close the intersection of South Royal Brougham Way and 4th Avenue South in downtown Seattle late Sunday afternoon, Nov. 16, to complete the demolition associated with the Atlantic Street overpass project near Safeco Field. All Interstate 5 and Interstate 90 ramps that exit to 4th Avenue South will also be closed.

During the closure, crews working for WSDOT will demolish several large concrete piers and the concrete ramp from the old eastbound I-90 exit to 4th Avenue South. Vehicles and pedestrians will not be allowed in the area for the duration of the 10-day closure.

Metro service along and across Royal Brougham will be disrupted due to the street closure. During this time, it will not be possible to walk or drive along or across Royal Brougham in any direction between Occidental Avenue South and the Metro Busway, just east of 4th Avenue South.

Many Metro buses will be rerouted around the closure, and will be using alternate streets in the SODO area. There will also be some bus stops on 4th Avenue South that will not have regular service. But, there will be a special free pedestrian shuttle that will circulate around the affected area during the demolition project. Bus passengers should expect traffic delays in the project area.

For specific details about the special pedestrian shuttle and affected transit service, visit Metro Online.
