News from King County Transportation Release date: Jan. 25, 2005 King County considers reducing speed limit on a section of 436th Avenue SE near North Bend The King County Road Services Division will hold a public hearing on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. in downtown Seattle to gather comments on a proposal to reduce the speed limit on a one-mile stretch of 436th Avenue Southeast, south of Southeast North Bend Way. The division is considering lowering the speed limit from 45 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour on 436th Avenue Southeast between Cedar Falls Road Southeast and Southeast North Bend Way. The proposed speed limit reduction responds to community concern over speeds in the neighborhood and a traffic analysis that found the current speed limit to be inconsistent with the area’s neighborhood character. The proposed speed limit reduction is designed to increase safety for motorists and pedestrians. The hearing will be held in Room 2A of the King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle. Written comments will be accepted through Friday, Feb. 11, and should be sent to Scott Sawhill, 201 S. Jackson St., MS: KSC-TR-0222, Seattle, WA, 98104-3856. Comments can also be faxed to (206) 296-0176, or emailed to: scott.sawhill@metrokc.gov. For more information about the meeting, call the Traffic Engineering Section at (206) 263-6134.
