UPDATE: The paving has been rescheduled to the week of March 28 due to recent wet weather.

Paving will close lanes on
124th Avenue NE in Kingsgate

The King County Road Services Division will complete final paving on its project along 124th Avenue Northeast in Kingsgate next week. That means the road will be closed down to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Monday, March 21 to Thursday, March 24. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work area one direction at a time, while the paving is being completed.

The paving marks the final phase of the $5.8 project to improve traffic and pedestrian safety in the busy corridor along 124th Avenue Northeast between Northeast 132nd Street and Northeast 146th Place. The project includes:

  • A new two-way turn lane in the center of the road;

  • Crosswalks with flashers embedded in the pavement at Northeast 137th Place and Northeast 140th Street;

  • Five-foot wide bicycle lanes on both sides of the road;

  • New curbs, gutters, and sidewalks; and

  • An improved drainage system and a short-term water detention area for storm runoff.

Once the paving is completed, crews will be working on striping the lanes, installing the crosswalk flashers, and finishing up landscaping. Most of the work should be done by mid April.
