King County road crews on snow duty for afternoon commute
Metro Transit not yet impacted but closely monitoring conditions

As wet snow continues to fall in many areas this afternoon, the King County Road Services Division has mobilized snow removal crews to clear slushy roadways countywide. Due to deteriorating weather conditions, the county will keep crews working in each road maintenance division throughout the evening hours and bring in additional crews, if necessary.

Meanwhile, King County Metro Transit is also closely monitoring the weather but reports no impact to operations at this time.  However, Metro is reminding passengers that updated adverse weather information is available on Metro Online. Bus riders are advised to check out the adverse weather information for their particular routes either in the paper timetables or online in advance of traveling.

Snow began falling in southern parts of the county this morning and quickly spread to most areas by early afternoon. Currently, higher elevations of east King County and the Shoreline area are seeing the most snow.  While most of the snow that’s been falling is very wet and not sticking to roadways, crews in the Snoqualmie Valley have begun plowing and sanding operations.

While widespread freezing is not expected countywide as the storm moves through, the Road Services Division is reminding motorists that conditions could rapidly change. Therefore, they should use extra caution when driving, especially in plateau areas of the county.  Motorists are also reminded that bridges and overpasses are especially prone to freezing during the late night and early morning hours.
