Metro's Vanpool program getting more popular all
the time

King County residents are
flocking to King County Metro
Transit's Vanpool program. There are currently more than 1,000
vans on the road between Vanpool and Vanshare, which is more than there have
ever been.

finest

It's a very appropriate description for the two deputies and one former
Metro deputy that were recently honored by
King County Sheriff Sue Rahr.
Current deputy Patrick McCurdy received Metro Deputy of the year, and Tim
Shook got the Lifesaver Award for rescuing a hiker who had been stranded in
the woods for days. Sergeant Jim Laing received the highest honor the
sheriff's office gives out, the Medal of Valor, for interrupting an armed
robbery in progress.

'Transit Now' turns one, Metro
service expands again

'Transit Now' initiative passed just in
time. King County voters asked for up to 20 percent more bus service in
November of 2006. It was a good thing, because Metro had another banner year
with its highest ridership ever in 2007. By the end of 2008, thanks to
'Transit Now', about 100,000 hours of new service will be in place.

The end of an era

The Mt. Si bridge in North Bend is slated for replacement in 2008, six
years shy of its 100th birthday. The bridge was built in 1914, but
transported to North Bend from Buckley in 1955. The county is looking
for a new owner for this historical landmark.
