Bridging the gap
– The South Park Bridge over
the Duwamish River near King County International Airport could be the poster
child representing the county’s budget challenges. The 74-year old bridge is due
for replacement, but the county doesn’t have the money to build a new bridge by
itself, and is looking for solutions while working with the community on the
plan to build a better bridge. |

Pass Sales
– Metro
Transit is making it faster and easier for passengers to ride the bus, with a
"pass program" that is quickly growing in popularity. It beats paying an
individual fare every time you ride the bus.

Get ready – It
was a great summer in the Puget Sound region but the weather is turning…fall is
upon us and sooner or later we’re going to get some heavy rain, which will
signal the beginning of the flood season in King County. It’s not a surprise,
there are areas of the county that flood consistently every year. The county is
getting ready, and there are some things residents can be doing to get ready as
well.

New budget –
This may have been the
most difficult budget ever put together by the King County Department of
Transportation, because of the loss of vehicle license revenue’s, a major
source of funding for the department, combined with increasing expenses.
Shortly after the budget was presented to the county council, we sat down
with King County Department of Transportation Director Harold Taniguchi to
talk about the choices that were made in putting the budget together and
the effect they will have on the department of transportation in the
upcoming year.
