Flood season arrives
– A couple of days of steady rain is all it
takes to increase flows on several northwest rivers and push them to flood
levels. So this time of year it’s important to know if you live in a
flood prone area and what the different flood phases mean so you can be
prepared. |

Buses move up to
surface streets due to tunnel closure
– On September 24th the downtown transit tunnel closed to begin
construction on a two-year retrofit so the tunnel can accommodate both buses and
light rail. Hundreds of buses that used to use the tunnel have since moved up to
surface streets in downtown Seattle.

Fleet's mobile mechanics–
King County’s Fleet Administration Division is
responsible for maintaining hundreds of vehicles, everything from standard
passenger cars to backhoes and bulldozers. With the price of gas these days, one
way Fleet keeps costs down is by having mobile mechanics make sure its vehicles
are always operating at peak efficiency.

Operator of the year –
Each year Metro Transit bus drivers choose
their operator of the year. It’s really quite an honor to be chosen, to be
recognized by your peers as the best when it comes to safety and customer
service. There are some nice perks that come with the coveted title, as King
County’s Director of Transportation Harold Taniguchi explains. |
