Anti-Icing, the county's preemptive punchCounty road crews call their anti-icing effort an 'educated guessing game in that it must be done before snow falls in order to be effective. If done correctly, it can keep major arterials clear and keep people and goods moving during a major snow event.

LED: A power-saving alternative - It's a novel approach to lighting the county's roadways that one day could cut street lamp energy usage by 70%. King County is in a pilot testing phase of replacing current street lamps with Light Emitting Diodes (LED).

The airport's big new allyIt's a firefighter's best friend and King County International Airport just took delivery of one. The airport's new Oshkosh Striker is 43-feet-long, 10.5-feet-wide, and weighs 81,000 pounds. It has all the latest in firefighting technology and will help the Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighters at the airport respond to any possible emergencies.

Flooding season begins, mind road closures - Rising rivers have already spilled over onto King County roads forcing closures. County crews would like to remind the public pay attention to closed roads and to never move signs or drive on a closed road. These actions could result in fines, imprisonment, and could cost you your life.

Gearing up for winter's worst - Mother Nature may keep us guessing every winter as to what's in store weather-wise; but the Road Services Division has been hard at work preparing. 'Inside Transportation' host Matt Reichmann speaks with Maintenance Superintendent Tony Ledbetter about the upcoming season.
