employees entering vanpool van

Employees at Korry Electronics on Dexter Avenue North in Seattle board their vanpools. As a FlexPass partner, Korry provides employees with a package of services that include unlimited access to Metro and Sound Transit as well as vanpool fare subsidies.

On Monday, Jan. 22, the King County Council recognized the Metro Transit Commute Partnership Program for winning the prestigious "Innovations in American Government" competition, an awards program of the Ford Foundation and Harvard University. King County Commute Partnerships works with local employers to encourage their employees to take the bus or carpool.

The recognition comes as the state Legislature considers a request from Gov. Gary Locke to restore a key tax incentive for employers who take part in Commute Trip Reduction programs. The proposal would restore a tax credit of 50 percent of the business and occupation tax paid by an employer, up to a limit of $100,000 per year.
