New and expanded bus service coming in September

At Crossroads Mall on
Saturday, Metro Transit planner Diane Harper explains proposed changes to Eastside bus service to
one of scores of visitors that day. [enlarged
view: 132KB].
Metro Transit riders will enjoy 75,000 more hours of
bus service on the streets in September, thanks to voter approval of
Proposition One last fall, administrative cuts by King County DOT, and a
potential fare increase being considered by the County
Council. The new service is part of a larger initiative to add
575,000 hours of new bus service over the next 6 years.
Overall, the September service additions will make
it easier to travel across Lake Washington and between major job and
commercial centers throughout the county. Buses will run more often,
for longer hours. And service will be redeployed to reduce
duplication with new Sound Transit routes being introduced in
September.
The links below offer full details, plus give you a
chance to offer your online comment on the September service changes.
Comments are due by the deadlines as noted.
The proposed 25 cent fare increase would help
replace revenues lost due to the loss of motor vehicle excise taxes. The County Council
has closed the public hearing it held on March 12th and action has been delayed until
next Monday, March 19th.
