Relieving congestion on Sammamish Plateau

A blue and gold sign from the King County Road
Services Division asks for comments on design and construction of a
long-awaited arterial network that will help connect residents on the
Sammamish Plateau with Interstate 90. This view on Issaquah-Pine
Lake Road looks south toward the intersection with Issaquah-Fall City
Road, the northern point of the new system. A public
open house is being held this Thursday.
Residents on the Sammamish Plateau
in east King County know how their rapid growth has significantly increased the traffic
congestion on Issaquah-Fall City Road, Issaquah-Pine Lake Road and East
Lake Sammamish Parkway. King County is now working on a new road network
that is expected to significantly relieve that congestion.
The
North SPAR
(Sammamish Plateau Access Road) will be a new multilane principal arterial connecting the intersection of Issaquah-Fall City Road/Issaquah-Pine Lake Road to a new road network providing direct access to Interstate 90. The North SPAR is designed to connect to the
South SPAR within the Issaquah Highlands development and then connect to
the expanded Sunset Interchange on I-90 that is now under construction.
The King County Road Services
Division is now in the final design phase and right-of-way negotiations
process. Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2002 at a
cost of about $10.7 million, with completion in about two years. Plans for
a local park-and-ride lot are also being coordinated with King County Metro.
King County is holding an
open house
this Thursday, Oct. 11, to present an update on the design and construction of the northern link of the Sammamish Plateau Access Road. The open house will be held
from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Eastridge Christian Assembly auditorium, 5025 Issaquah-Pine
Lake Road S.E., Issaquah. (See
map--external link). The meeting will offer the public the
opportunity to learn about the project, view project displays, provide
written comments and learn about the anticipated construction schedule. For current plans and other
project-related information, please log onto the project's
Web site.

meeting, please contact Jana Wagner at (206) 205-5229.
