Roads Maintenance — Special Operations Unit

The Special Operations Unit consists of five separate work groups that are responsible for specialized work or larger projects, such as paving, drainage, vegetation management, bridge repair and maintenance, and guardrail installation and repair. The functions of the Special Operations Unit are performed countywide and not restricted to specific service areas. These Special Operations groups also provide services at the request or on behalf of other county agencies, contract cities, and other municipalities. This work is being requested as outside agencies recognize the expertise that the units have in the performance of their specific functions. The work performed by these units includes:

  • Construction and repair of major drainage systems, including culverts and catch basins.
  • Landscape maintenance.
  • Asphalt surfacing of major roads.
  • Construction and repair of bridges.
  • Guardrails installation and repair.
  • Riverbank stabilization and seawall construction.
  • Major system failure repairs (roadways, drainage, slides, etc.).
  • Concrete work, including curbs and sidewalks.
  • Facilities maintenance and management.

During inclement weather, Special Operations staff also stand ready to respond 24/7.
