Letter from General Manager Kevin Desmond

Subject: Call for Direct Financial Partnership Proposals
I am writing to let you know about a new opportunity to increase Metro service in your community. Transit Now, approved by voters last November, will fund a 20 percent increase in bus service over ten years to areas throughout King County. In addition, Transit Now authorized the Service Partnership Program, under which cities, employers and other organizations can contribute one-third of the cost of further transit increases. You may have read about the first such partnership, signed with Children’s Hospital for 63 new bus trips beginning in the fall of 2007.
This letter is Metro’s Call for Service Partnerships for 2008 through 2013. This long-range outlook will enable us to plan and schedule our resources for new services. I invite you to find out more about service partnerships to decide if your organization would like to participate. The information you need is on a new web site designed for interested organizations to learn the requirements, application procedures and upcoming deadlines.
If your organization might be able to enter into a partnership, you will want to note these key dates: on Thursday, June 21, Metro staff will host an optional pre-proposal meeting to answer your questions from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the King Street Center, 201 South Jackson Street, Seattle, Washington 98104. To help us plan for space and materials, RSVP by June 19 to servicepartnerships@metrokc.gov. By July 3, we request a brief letter of interest so that we can plan time to help you refine your proposal. Formal proposals are due October 1. Metro will review and rank all proposals based on criteria adopted by the King County Council. The King County Council will make final decisions by the end of this year.
I encourage you to consider the opportunities offered through the Service Partnership Program. Please see www.metrokc.gov/kcdot/transitnow/partnerships for more information about the program and how to participate.
Sincerely,
Kevin Desmond
