Des Moines Memorial Drive ceremony Dec. 6
The King County Road
Services Division will host a completion ceremony for the
Des Moines Memorial Drive renovation on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m.
at North Highline Fire Station, 1606 South 128th St., Burien. There will
be brief presentations and an opportunity to walk the new sidewalks

Society joined representatives from the King County
Road Services Division
last week to mark the completion of the Meadowbrook Bridge

The
project originated from the recommendations of the Boulevard Park
Community Advisory Group and the Des Moines Memorial Drive Committee.
The project involved repaving and realigning the road between South 99th
Street and South 128th Street, and constructing curb, gutter, and
sidewalk on both sides of the roadway. Memorial markers are set into the
sidewalk to continue the roadway’s role as a "Living Road of
Remembrance." That role was originally established in 1921 to honor and
memorialize men and women from Washington State who gave their lives
during World War I.
The two-hour tour includes Seattle’s best holiday light displays,
including the luminarias at Green Lake. Buses depart at 7 p.m. from the
boarding zone in Pioneer Square at Main Street and Second Avenue South,
across the street from the fire station.
