Transit service adjusted for Thanksgiving Week

Photo: turkeyMetro will adjust its service this Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Sunday schedules will be in effect on all routes on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24. Buses will operate on a reduced weekday schedule on the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 25; and some commuter routes and selected trips in the University District will be cancelled.
Metro customer service and business offices will be closed on both days. For all the details on holiday transit service, visit Metro Online.

Traffic watch: Holiday activities downtown Friday

Photo: Holiday lightsThe holiday season will kick off in downtown Seattle this Friday, Nov. 25, with the annual Macy’s Holiday Parade in the morning and the Westlake Center Tree Lighting in the evening. Both events - along with heavier than normal shopping traffic - will impact traffic and transit service.

Pine Street will be closed to vehicle traffic most of the day between Fourth Avenue and Fifth Avenue. The parade starts at 9 a.m. at the corner of Seventh Avenue and Pine Street. The parade route goes west on Pine, turns south on Fifth Avenue to University, then north on Fourth until it ends just past Westlake Center. Buses that normally travel on Fourth and Fifth avenues in that area will be rerouted to Third or Second avenues from about 8 a.m. to noon. And, Pine Street buses will be moved to Stewart Street during the parade.

Pine Street and Fourth Avenue, between Union Street and Olive Way, will be closed during the 5 p.m. tree lighting. Traffic is usually quite heavy the length of Fourth and Fifth avenues during the event, so downtown buses will be rerouted to Third or Second avenues between approximately 4:30-6:00 p.m. All the reroute information for Friday will be posted on Metro Online by Wednesday.

Despite the reroutes, Metro Transit will still be a great way to come downtown on Friday and throughout the holidays. Reduce driving and parking hassles by riding the bus. Metro’s online Trip Planner can help you plan the best way to visit the city and all the holiday events throughout the region. There are also shopping and entertainment incentives for transit users posted online at www.seattletunnel.org.
