You've admitted to breaking
the law, or a jury has decided that you did, and the judge has to decide
what to do with you. There are 3 things that can happen to you:
|
| _____ |

|
Probation:
Yea! The judge has decided that you don't have to go to jail... for now.
But you have to agree to not break any more laws and probably to pay a fine
(that's $$$) and do some volunteer work with a community group that could
use some help. But, hey... no jail! Just behave yourself from now on! If
you don't... back to jail for you. |

|
County Jail:
The judge has decided you need to spend some time in jail as punishment
for what you did. But if the judge says you're going to jail for less than
a year, you'll be in County Jail. It's not any fun, but it's not as bad
as State Prison. |
| _____ |

|
State Prison:
You must've done something really bad, because only people convicted of
really serious crimes get sent here. And usually for a long, long time,
so bring a lot of toothbrushes.
