Vision

To be the best stewards of the public trust...

Mission

To safeguard and preserve people, animals, property and information through innovative, transparent, and accountable Records, Licensing, and Animal Care and Control Services, by making sure that:

  • All county agencies have approved local records management policies and retention schedules.
  • All adoptable animals leave the shelter alive; all animal control complaints are resolved thoroughly and in a timely manner.
  • All pets in King County are licensed, spayed and neutered.
  • The public is provided with maximum access to records, documents, and revenues available for county operations.
  • Citizens can easily access licensing services and receive service that exceeds expectations.
  • Human and Payroll Resource actions will be legally defensible, fair, consistent, non-discriminatory, and accurate.

All of this will be achieved by partnering with stakeholders to create an environment of cooperative compliance.

Our seven guiding principles
  1. We do everything with integrity and we are honest and transparent in our actions.
  2. We focus on the needs of our employees and our internal and external customers and make decisions using a collaborative model, producing results that exceed expectations.
  3. We remove barriers so staff can be innovative and take pride in their work.
  4. Everyone is accountable for our transformation and our constant improvement including design and implementation.
  5. We value work life balance and we will create a work environment that is joyful where staff are passionate about life.
  6. We encourage risk taking in a learning organization and hold each other accountable for implementing innovative solutions.
  7. We will treat everyone with respect, honor, kindness and professionalism.
