“As I handed out award ribbons to the Lead Line class contestants of this
park awareness day, I could see the excitement and joy in the participants’
eyes. Bridle Trails is an incredibly unique treasure. Though it
was established in 1945, it has become an outdoor haven inside city walls.
Where else in a greater metropolitan area can one enjoy outdoor activities
such as horseback riding, while being close to where these saddle club
members live and work?” said Councilmember Hague.
The Lake
Washington Saddle Club took this event as an opportunity for asking tough
questions about the future of parks funding. Whether it be volunteers
or new sources of funding, the saddle club was looking to the community and
leaders like Councilmember Hague, to show commitment to the park system and
to find ways to save this sanctuary known as Bridle Trails State Park.
Councilmember Hague successfully appealed before state boards to take Bridle
Trails off the list of State parks to be closed in 2002 due to the fact that
Bridle Trails holds community history and provides a setting for unique
activities within citified areas. In addition, Hague continues to do
all she can to find alternate sources of funding for Bridle Trails and other
County parks.
