EMP to Host County Council
Town Hall Meeting on Regional Arts and Cultural Programs
The Metropolitan King County Council’s last Town Hall meeting
of 2004 will take place on Monday, December 6. The Experience
Music Project’s [EMP] Sky Church, 325 5th Ave N, Seattle,
will host the Town Hall, which will be a celebration of the region’s
arts and heritage programs.
“Our region is blessed with creative talent, cultural diversity,
and thriving arts and heritage communities,” said Council
Chair Larry Phillips.
“When you put a variety of urban dwellers, suburbanites and
rural residents between a mountain range and Puget Sound, you get
a rich arts and heritage community – provided they get the
funding they need. This summer the Council and public learned more
about the arts and heritage programs on the Eastside. December’s
Town Hall is an opportunity to explore our urban cultural heritage,
and to learn more about the county-wide economic benefits generated
through artistic performances and historical preservation.”
Among the people scheduled to brief the public and Councilmembers
at the Town Hall are Seattle Center Director Virginia Anderson,
Leonard Garfield, Executive Director of Seattle’s Museum
of History and Industry, and Wing
Luke Asian Museum Executive Director Ron Chew. There will also
be briefings of the health of King County’s arts and heritage
community from Jim Kelly, Executive Director of 4Culture,
and Peter Donnelly, President, of ArtsFund.
Citizens will also have a chance to speak directly to the Council
during the public comment period.
The public is invited to meet face-to-face with councilmembers
at an informal reception before the Town Hall starting at 9:30
a.m. The Committee-of-the-Whole meeting starts at 10:00
a.m.
The Council’s Committee-of-the-Whole
is the only standing committee on which all 13 members serve.
It considers complex legislation and policy issues of interest to
the entire council. This year, the Council set a goal of enhancing
local representation on regional issues by periodically scheduling
our regular meetings in various parts of the county. In 2004, the
Council held successful Town Hall Meetings in SeaTac, Federal Way,
Lake Forest Park, Seattle’s Central Area, King County’s
Marymoor Park in Redmond, the Bellevue Art Museum and Issaquah’s
historic Pickering Barn.
