Chair's Statement on Proposed Motion of "No-Confidence” in King County Elections Director

It is far too soon to consider any change in leadership at King County Elections.

This Council has just launched two major reviews – an independent management audit and a Citizens’ Elections Oversight Committee – to assist in our scrutiny of the King County Elections Division. We must see the results of that work, and get all the facts, before we take any action.

This motion is part of an orchestrated, thinly-veiled attempt to dishonor the Elections Director just before trial on the election lawsuit in Chelan.

What King County elections needs now is stability. This Council will not support any change in leadership at this critical moment, especially one that is purely motivated by politics.
