Phillips to Present Park Development Funds at Uptown Stroll
Budget Ordinance Provides Money for Trees, Irrigation System

The site that will become Queen Anne’s newest park—which is also the location of the opening ceremony for this year’s Uptown Stroll—will benefit from an amendment to the 2006 Budget Ordinance adopted by the King County Council.

The Council approved $50,000 in development funds that will be used to plant trees and install an irrigation system at the site on Roy Street and Queen Anne Avenue North. The park property was purchased with King County Conservation Futures Tax funds and funds from the Seattle Pro Parks Levy. Metropolitan King County Council Chair Larry Phillips, who represents the Queen Anne neighborhood, will present the funds for the park to the Uptown Neighborhood Alliance at this year’s Stroll on Saturday August 26, at 1:00 p.m.

“The location of the new park—near the historic Queen Anne Counterbalance—is a unique and central setting,” said Phillips. “These funds will be used to help develop a green oasis in the midst of one of Seattle’s oldest and fastest-growing urban neighborhoods.”

The 2006 King County Budget was approved in November 2005 by the King County Council. The Council approves changes to the annual adopted budget on a quarterly basis. The legislation, called an omnibus ordinance was approved by the Council on July 24. It can include supplemental appropriations, technical corrections, and expenditure authority carried over from the previous year’s budget.
