| Phillips finds New Homes for “Retired” County Vans | |||
|
Instead of heading to the used car lot, three retired Metro Transit vanpool vans will help transport young people and the elderly thanks to Metropolitan King County Council Chair Larry Phillips. Following this week’s unanimous approval by the County Council of the King County Vanpool Program, Phillips announced that the Low Income Housing Institute, Cascade Bicycle Club, and the North Seattle Boys and Girls Club will each receive one eight-passenger vehicle. “The programs provided by these organizations are invaluable because they focus on our most valuable resource: the children of King County,” said Phillips. “I look forward to seeing these vans in their active ‘retirement’ throughout our community.” The Low Income Housing Institute will use their van to transport elderly, young, and disabled tenants to programs, classes, services, and health clinics. The Cascade Bicycle Club will use their van to transport bicycles to schools for their program educating children about bicycle safety. The North Seattle Boys and Girls Club will use their van to transport youth to and from activities throughout the region. Since 1995, the King County Council has donated retired vans to nonprofit groups and local governments to help meet the transportation needs of low-income, elderly, disabled, and young people throughout the county.
