FORMS AND MATERIALS REQUIRED:
WORK LOCATION/WORK SCHEDULE: Candidates may be assigned to one of several maintenance locations throughout King County and work one of three shifts, seven days a week. Work location and shift assignments may change up to three times per year according to a seniority-based “pick” system. Employees in this classification work 40 hours per week and are eligible for overtime.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: This position performs body repair and structural maintenance work on transit coaches and equipment, such as buses, trolleys, transit vans, trucks, cars, cleaners, forklifts and streetcars. Duties include:
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires journey-level knowledge of sheet metal repairs and structural maintenance work and knowledge of all related specialized equipment. A valid Washington State driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and the ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license are required.
In addition, applicants must meet one of the following qualifications:
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: The most competitive candidates will be those applicants with documented experience in the repair of heavy equipment such as passenger coaches or other similar vehicles. Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, layout, and bench work is also desired.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The job requires considerable physical skill and sustained periods of physical effort. Frequent lifting or carrying of welding and cutting tools weighing up to 50 pounds is required. Lifting and carrying, with assistance, metal, wood, equipment and other objects weighing up to 100 pound is also required.
SELECTION PROCESS Applications will be screened for completeness and to determine whether candidates meet minimum qualifications. Candidates presenting evidence that they meet or exceed the qualifications noted above may be invited to participate in skills test and panel interview. Those who interview successfully will be processed for immediate hire or placed on an eligibility list for placement into vacancies as they occur. Employment offers will be finalized only after candidates have successfully completed physical examinations, drug screens and a drug and alcohol background check. Reference checks and reviews of driving records will also be conducted prior to any final offer of employment.
