WORK LOCATION: Link Light Rail Operations & Maintenance Facility located on Airport Way (across from Tully’s roasting plant).

WORK SCHEDULE: This position is overtime eligible and shifts may include day, swing and night. The workweek and scheduled hours may vary.  This position has on-call responsibilities and must respond to emergency situations as needed.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: The Rail Operations Section will be responsible for providing rail service on a 13.9 mile track from the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel to a station bordering Tukwila and SeaTac. This position will perform maintenance on railway signal and communications equipment such as CCTV cameras and monitors switch machines, vital relays, micropocessor controlled interlocking programmable controllers, fiber optic links, programmable multiplexers servers, stand-alone computers, power supplies and associated communications equipments.

• Conduct fault diagnosis; inspect, test, modify, maintain and repair signal and communications equipment
• Inspect, repair and maintain electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment including grade crossing mechanisms, switch machines, multiplexers, microprocessor controlled interlocking, vital relays, CCTV systems, cameras, monitors, fiber optic links, servers, stand alone PCs, power supplies, battery systems, variable message signs, audio systems, telephone systems, display systems and other complex machinery and equipment
• Operate common, specialized tolls and equipment such as mechanical lift devices, support structure, and poles to perform inspection, maintenance and repair tasks
• Flag track-way to provide safe rail work zones; set up work-zone traffic control areas
• Record and document maintenance and diagnostic data
• Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of and skill in performing journey level work in electrical, electronic and microprocessor based control systems as well as analog and digital communicaitons systems
• Knowledge of the fundamentals of railway signaling and communications
• Knowledge in analyzing and evaluating malfuncitons in electrial and electronic transit equipment and determining repair requiremets; skill in performing electronic fabrication and assembly tasks, such as soldering and wire harnessing; skill in problem solving, analyzing, diagnosing and evaluating equipment problems

• Knowledge of and skill in industrial safety techniques, principles and procedures including entering confined spaces, working from elevated platforms and equipment and working at railway crossings with train and automobile traffic
• Knowledge of and skill in mechanical applications
• Skill in the application of customer service techniques and principles when dealing with customers in a tactful and diplomatic manner
• Skill in oral and written communications, including reading, writing and following instructions
• Skill in preparing written reports, inspection forms for documenting defects and repairs of work orders in designated computer programs; skill in preparing time and material cost estimates;  keep accurate records
• Skill in developing and implementing preventive maintenance and safety inspection procedures
• Skill in working under established deadlines and timeframes
• Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with a diverse group of individuals

REQUIRED:  Two-years experience with signal systems.  Washington State Driver’s License, Class B CDL with endorsements and forklift and confined space certifications

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work indoors and outdoors and in inclement weather.  Work in high places from mechanical lifts and structures and in high voltage environment to perform inspections.  Position requires minimal physical skill and effort beyond the use of everyday office equipment and supplies and may require stooping or bending motions when inspecting work.

SELECTION PROCESS: Applications will be screened to determine whether candidates meet minimum qualifications.  Candidates presenting evidence that they meet or exceed the qualifications noted above may be invited to participate in a series of interviews and a written exercise.
