WHO MAY APPLY: This position is open to all qualified King County career service employees who are members of the United Association of Plumbers & Pipefitters, Local 32 holding the same classification as the vacant position, all other career service employees, all other executive branch regular exempt employees, current probationary employees who achieved career service status in a previous position, and the general public.  Bargaining unit members will receive first consideration.

WORK LOCATION:  This vacancy is currently assigned to the Outlying Building Grouping (with report to the King County Courthouse) however, per section 4.2 of the Joint Crafts Council Contract, management has the right to determine work location. Other work locations may include the King County Courthouse Complex (downtown Seattle), the King County Correctional Facility (downtown Seattle), and other county-maintained outlying buildings.

 

WORK SCHEDULE: This position is overtime eligible and works a 40-hour workweek. Regular hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Work shifts and hours may vary due to maintenance and project requirements.  Applicants must be available for call in and call back for which appropriate premiums will be paid.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Perform journey-level plumbing and mechanical activities including installing, maintaining and repairing pipes, storm and sanitary sewers, wet and dry fire sprinkler systems, valves, steam valves, traps, drains, basins, tubs, faucets, sinks, hydrants, and water coolers in and around County facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: At the time of appointment the candidate must have one of the following: Washington State plumber’s license, certified welder card, BTJ steamfitter card, Certification Federal Class 1 and 2, or journey-level pipefitter card.  One or more of the following licenses/certifications may be required for some positions: backflow testing license or City of Seattle Fire Director’s certificate.  The selected applicant must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license or the ability to travel throughout King County in a timely manner in a variety of County vehicles.  Final appointment is contingent upon successfully passing a thorough Facilities Management Division and Department of Adult & Juvenile Detention (DAJD) background investigation, and pre-employment physical examination.
