We are excited to announce the Youth Sports Facilities Grant Endowment. Proceeds from the sale of the Johnson Building helped establish a permanent endowment of $2.7 million dollars. Approximately $100,000 in interest will be programmed annually, allowing for about three new grant projects each year beginning in 2008. This means roughly 18 new or improved youth sports facilities projects will be funded each year in King County.
More than 220 projects and counting. We’re excited to continue providing matching grant funds to rehabilitate or develop sports fields and facilities serving youth in King County. Now in its 14th year, the YSFG program provides grants up to $75,000 to sports or community organizations that partner with a school district or park agency. Since the program’s 1993 inception, King County Parks has awarded over $8 million dollars in grants that have leveraged many millions more for youth sports facilities. The money comes from one quarter of 1 percent on car rental taxes in King County and is administered through an annual request for proposals. The YSFG program is a model for capital investments and a cornerstone of our outreach to the cities of King County. |
