Countywide Planning Policies

About the Countywide Planning Policies

The Countywide Planning Policies (CPPs, PDF*, 213KB) are a series of policies that address growth management issues in King County. The Growth Management Planning Council (GMPC) brings together elected officials from King County and the cities and jurisdictions within it to develop the CPPs.

Adopted and ratified by the cities in 1994, the CPPs provide a countywide vision and serve as a framework for each jurisdiction to develop its own comprehensive plan, which must be consistent with the overall vision for the future of King County.

Amendments to the CPPs may be developed by the GMPC or its successor, or by the King County Council as provided in the policies.

2007 proposed amendments to the Countywide Planning Policies

A summary of proposed amendments to the CPPs is as follows, or see GMPC meeting information for 2007 for detailed information on the GMPC motions.

  • GMPC Motion 07-1 affects the unincorporated areas to be annexed in the future by the City of Sammamish.
  • GMPC Motion 07-2 acknowledges overlapping potential annexation area designations in the unincorporated area urban area known as North Highline.
  • GMPC Motion 07-3 adopts a report that has countywide significance related to land capacity.
  • GMPC Motion 07-4 affects the unincorporated areas to be annexed in the future by the City of Covington.

A State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) environmental checklist (PDF*, 480KB) was prepared for the 2007 proposed amendments.

The proposals were found to not pose a probable significant adverse impact to the environment, so a Determination of Nonsignificance (PDF*, 70KB) was issued.

Although administrative appeals on non-project threshold determinations are not allowed, King County welcomes your comments. Written comments on this threshold determination must be received by King County DDES by January 15, 2008, 4:30 p.m.
