More cooling centers open in King County
King County, WA – As above average temperatures continue in the Puget Sound region, additional cooling centers (See current list below) have been opened around King County to help residents stay cool and comfortable during hot summer days. A cooling center is a place where residents can go to cool off, get some water, obtain information, and be referred to other services as needed.
High temperatures can be particularly harmful to vulnerable seniors living alone or isolated. Residents are encouraged to check on senior family members and neighbors twice a day and bring them to cooling centers when needed.
Health officials also recommend using other public sites such as malls, community centers, libraries and other public buildings which have air-conditioning to find relief from the high temperatures.
