Disaster Recovery Center closes in King County
Federal aid still available to residents and businesses
King County, WA – Recovery efforts from December’s flooding continue in King County, but residents are urged to apply for help now. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials announced today that the Disaster Recovery Center currently located at North Seattle Community College (external link) (9600 College Way, Main Bldg. Seattle, WA 98103) will transition to a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Center from Monday, Jan. 7 through Thursday, January 17, 2008. This transition is the next step in the recovery process, but federal aid is still available for those in need.
Those who were affected by the disaster, but have not yet registered with FEMA are encouraged to apply for assistance immediately by going online to www.fema.gov (external link) or by calling FEMA’s toll-free number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week until further notice. Those with speech or hearing impairments may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. FEMA’s toll-free number also has Spanish language options. Those already registered who have questions about their application can call this number as well for answers or to update their information.
At the Disaster Loan Outreach Center, Small Business Administration representatives will continue to provide individuals and business owners with face-to-face service in completing their loan applications, answering questions about SBA’s loan program, and explaining how an SBA disaster loan can help pay for their disaster losses.
Informational materials will also be available on FEMA’s Individual and Household Program and the Hazard Mitigation Program. Low interest disaster loans from SBA are available to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private, non-profit organizations. Disaster loans from SBA are the primary source of funds for repairing and rebuilding disaster damaged private property.
